TUES MAY 21: HAYFORK - HAYFORK COOPERATIVE PUBLIC MEETING at Northern Delights Coffeehouse at 7pm. Presentation by Carol Fall. She will talk about food safety. Some folks are surprised about the potential for food-borne illness from their garden, especially with the shift to sustainable practices and use of raw manures.  She'll skip the food safety in the kitchen part and focus on gardens & farms (especially important for people who donate veggies to Food Banks, senior centers, or sell to others), basic info on farm safety plans. Normally, you can check out books from Hayfork Cooperative’s lending library managed by Judy Godair - but she will be out of town! Feel free to bring seeds, plants, bulbs, etc. to share. If you have magazines and periodicals that you are finished with and would like to give them to others before recycling them, feel free to bring them to share. They do not ask for dues as this is a cooperative. However, please support Northern Delights with your business or a small donation. They want each of you to have a say in the programs and in the decisions. They are here to guide only, not to push a program. More info or if you have suggestions talk to: Susan Bower, Garrett Spillane, Peggy Siers, Adrian Keyes, or Todd Taylor. All are welcome to join them for this free event. Third Tuesday each month.

MON MAY 27: MEMORIAL DAY!

THURS MAY 30: HAYFORK - YOUTH RESOURCE FAIR at Hayfork Elementary School Gym 12:15pm-4:30pm. The idea of the Resource Fair is to widen our youth’s eyes to the wonderful job opportunities out there in the big wide world. In particular, our goal is to expose students to all of the great local services, natural resources, careers, and recreational opportunities in our area. The Watershed Center would like to invite you to present at this event. They are enthused to offer this event again and we need your help! Fair will provide a space for your organization to share info, facilitate activities, and connect with students. They have held two in past years that have been well-received by elementary students; this year they have been provided a grant to expand their outreach to parents as well. In 2011, Hayfork Cooperative Extension brought a goat for kids to milk, and Ascend Wilderness Experience simulated challenges that kids might face on a hike. Content of your booth is up to you, and everything is appreciated. Just keep in mind that hands-on is key to holding their interest and that it should be a quick activity - 5-10 minutes at most because kids have about 30 minutes to visit all booths. Set-up will begin at 12:15pm, and students will rotate through by age group from 12:45pm-3pm, then we will open it to parents until 4:30pm. Snacks and set-up support will be provided. More info or if you are interested in hosting an activity or an info: call Ingra at 623-3747 ext. 1.
