Environmental sections include all manner of environmental news and
information. Includes
SAFE's Alternatives Guide to pests and controls. SAFE has representatives to the Trinity County Weeds
Management Cooperative (TCWMC). Three informative slides will be shown
for 6 months at Trinity Theater through the end of 2009. An updated
TCWMC informational weeds slide show will be available in April 2008 on
the Trinity
County website. SAFE is a signatory on a petition against
genetically modified/engineered trees, distributed to the Scientific
Body of the United Nations
Convention on Biological Diversity in Rome in late February 2008. Read text of open letter.
SAFE
continues to oppose genetically modified/engineered agriculture,
including trees.
SAFE was involved with the Board of Supervisor's passage of a
resolution banning genetically engineered (GE) plants and animals in
Trinity County. This makes Trinity County the second county in the
nation to ban the growing of genetically engineered (GE) plants and
animals. SAFE educates people about various environmental groups to problems and provides solutions to many of them. They work with other environmental groups to protect our natural resources, our national heritage and the future of our children. SAFE members are involved in public affairs, serving on committees, in government positions, in volunteer work both public and private, and in working in cooperation with other public interest groups to bring about a sustainable economy based upon sustainable resources. GIS maps of pesticide (which includes herbicide) use in Trinity County (in conjunction with California Indian Basketweavers Association and Trinity Community GIS).
Studies of alternatives to forestry spraying were under the direction of Alderon Laird and Dwight Streamfellow. Produced Hayfork public schools science projects,
environmental scholarships and awards,
