SAFE Alternatives for our Forest Environment

TRINITY COUNTY INFO & LINKS

Nestled in the California Coast Range between the Central Valley and the Pacific Coast, this beautiful area boasts pristine forests, streams, lakes and the usually snowcapped Trinity Alps. It is truly a mountain paradise far from the maddening crowds.

Larger than the state of Delaware, with a population of just over 13,000, mostly rugged individualists, there is lots of room for people to recreate or to just plain live.  And, there's not one single stop light in the whole County.

Almost 85% of the County is public land, including National Forests (the Trinity, some of the Shasta and Six Rivers, a bit of the Mendocino) and part of the Whiskeytown (Trinity/Claire Engle Lake) National Recreation Area.  There are many thousands of acres of Wilderness, as well as several Wild and Scenic Rivers.

With an 1850 Gold Rush and a Chinese community all its own, the County has a rich historical past, some of which is well-preserved for modern visitors, including the Joss House in Weaverville, one of the oldest Taoist temples still in use in the United States today (it is also a State Park with guided tours for the public).
